Abstract

This case study investigated the effects of a 4-week resistance training program on lower limb strength and dynamic balance levels of a 69-year-old female adult living in Russas, Ceará. The participant, who had been practicing weight training regularly for more than 3 months, underwent “sit-to-stand” and “sit-to-walk” tests before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase of 4 repetitions in the sit-to-stand test and a reduction in the time of the sit-to-walk test, from 10.01 to 6.80 seconds. It was concluded that resistance training promoted improvements in muscle strength and dynamic balance, contributing to the functionality and independence of the older adult. The study reinforces the importance of weight training as a strategy to improve the quality of life in old age.
