THE BENEFITS OF WEIGHT TRAINING FOR THE ELDERLY IN GYMS IN LIMOEIRO DO NORTE/CE

In recent years, the elderly population in Brazil has grown significantly. With technological and medical advances, together with increasing discoveries of resources and procedures that help maintain quality of life and longevity, provide a significant increase in the life expectancy of Brazilian elderly people. Knowing this need, this research aims to verify the possible benefits that the practice of bodybuilding can provide to the elderly in biological, physiological, psychological and social aspects. The sample consisted of 15 elderly people who practice bodybuilding in the city of Limoeiro do Norte-CE. The data collection instrument was a form with open and closed questions. The results allowed us to conclude that weight training is an excellent form of physical preparation for the elderly, as it is widely accepted by practitioners and promotes improvements in both physical and mental health.
