This article proposes a theoretical and pedagogical approach to literature for children, combining semiotic analysis with educational practice. On the scientific level, it presents a semiotic and symbolic analysis of A Menina do Mar by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and O monstro das cores by Anna Llenas, based on the models of Greimas, Joseph Courtès, and Cristina Macário Lopes. On the pedagogical level, it describes an intervention carried out in a Kindergarten, where the reading of O monstro das cores was followed by a guided activity. The article also aims to affirm literature as a structuring axis for children's linguistic, cognitive, and aesthetic development, essential for shaping readers and fostering critical thinking from the early years of schooling.
