Abstract

Since Mathematics is a science that contributes to individual's multilateral development, as well as to thought and language progress, it makes it essential to guarantee the successful development of the teaching-learning process. It was in this order of thought that an exploratory study of the teaching - learning process of this subject was carried out in different teaching cycles in Moçâmedes city, Namibe province, Angola. Thus, the current article aims to describe the main reasons for school absenteeism in Mathematics classes in different teaching cycles in Moçâmedes city, Namibe province, Angola and to propose some strategies to reduce this phenomenon. For data collection, a mixed methodology based on a descriptive and participative paradigm was used, supported by the use of theoretical, historical-logical, analytical-synthetic methods, system focus,
inductive-deductive. This methodology allowed us to analyze the main reasons for the phenomenon in Mathematics classes, to know among several aspects what to do to reduce it, in order to improve the teaching-learning process of this subject.
