Abstract

In December 2019, the world registered an outbreak of respiratory infection in China, Wuhan province and WHO called itself the new coronavirus. Aim: this research aimed to describe the role of biomarkers
in the evolution of patients with COVID-19. Methodology: this is a Bibliographic review, using the following descriptors Coronavirus, COVID-19, Biomarkers, SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, Predictors
Biomarkers. The selection of the studies was carried out in two stages, in the first stage the titles and abstracts of the references identified through the search strategy were evaluated and the potentially
eligible studies were pre-selected. In the second stage, the full text evaluation of the pre-selected studies was carried out to confirm eligibility. The articles consulted showed that the increase in the levels of
biomarkers predicts a poor prognosis in patients with COVID-19. Clear evidence of how the levels of biomarkers can change the course of the disease according to the severity of the COVID-19 infection, can
be used as a complement in clinical practice to guide the screening, treatment and admission of patients to the Intensive Care Unit for differentiated follow-up, thus improving prognosis and minimizing
hospitalization and mortality rates.
