Abstract

Geoconservation is a recent theme in the geology field, which faces obstacles within which the lack of knowledge and lack of initiative for its promotion. Serra de Nogueira, located in the northeast of portugal, is one of the most complex places in terms of portuguese litology. Hold the
most extensive and well preserved area of black oak (quercus pyrenaica) in portugal and the most relevant area of ultrabasic rocks. this article intends in an introductive way to expose the concept of geoconservation and analyze the case of the Serra de Nogueira in terms of conservation of its geological heritage.
