Abstract

This study deals with ESG students'poor command of Portuguese language and aims to present the results of an exploratory research we conduct at the Mucoque High School on the causes of ESG students' poor command of Portuguese language. To meet this objective,we use a qualitative approach and data collection, we conduct interviews, questionnaires and observation involving students from a 12th grade class, 2019 school year, portuguese language teachers, parents and/or guardians at Mucoque Secondary School, Vilankulo,Inhambane province. The research points as causes of the weak domain of Portuguese: the exclusion of mother language in the ESG; the use of the same teaching methodology and the inflexibility of teaching programs.
